Q: Will the CD-ROM run on a Macintosh?
A: No, the CD-ROM was designed as a Windows-only product. However, Insignia Solutions makes a relatively inexpensive Windows emulator called Softwindows which allows you to run Windows applications on your Macintosh. Our programmer occasionally runs the CD-ROM on his 120 MHz Mac and reports that while the performance (speed) could be better, all the functions of the CD-ROM work perfectly.
The CD-ROM for Professor Schleicher's forthcoming second-year Yoruba textbook is now fully cross-platform compatible.
If you want to look up a Yoruba word, you don't have to start the whole program to use the glossary. Just open the CD-ROM icon, open the Lessons directory, and run "YtoE.exe" (Yoruba to English) or "EtoY.exe" (English to Yoruba).
The glossary buttons don't work on the "Welcome and Introduction" screens of Disc 1. You can always open the glossaries manually through your File Manager or Windows Explorer.
In the second exercise of the Vocabulary section of Lesson 1, the correct pictures don't display immediately. To correct this problem, flip ahead to the fourth picture, then back to the first one, before beginning the exercise.
