While retaining the basic pedagogical goals of 1997's Je K'¡ SÊ Yor˜b· (Let's Speak Yoruba) CD-ROM, JÍ K'¡ Ka Yor˜b· (Let's Read Yoruba) refines the previous model in a number of ways.

Compatibility

The same JÍ K'¡ Ka Yor˜b· disc will run on both Macintosh and Windows computers. Furthermore, the program uses standard formats (RTF, JPEG, GIF, and QuickTime) for all of its content.

User control

An improved interface provides more navigation options, navigation and keyboard shortcuts, and greater control over sound and video content.

Personalized installation

Students can easily create a personal startup directory on a floppy disk, to take with them from home to computer lab to classroom.

Expandable content

All content in the CD-ROM is stored externally and was designed to be editable by anyone with basic software tools. This means instructors can customize the exercises, or create their own exercises and add them to the CD-ROM.

Internet component

The CD-ROM can check any Internet address for new content files, creating the possibility of an online communiity of shared lesson content. Also, students can submit writing assignments via email to their instructors from within the CD-ROM.

Replicability

While many products claim to offer a replicable model for language learning, the JÍ K'¡ Ka Yor˜b· program can literally be converted to any language simply by "plugging in" new content. Instructions for editing content are included on the CD-ROM.
